Softball Game Preview: Long Beach Bearcats vs. Poplarville Hornets

The Long Beach Bearcats will head out to face off against the Poplarville Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Things were looking good for Long Beach after they put the first points on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of St. Patrick by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bearcats have suffered since March 26, 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poplarville). They blew past Moss Point 15-0 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hornets needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Poplarville now has a winning record of 6-5-1. As for Long Beach, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Long Beach skirted past Poplarville 2-1 in their previous meeting back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Long Beach since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
