Zander Griego and Cody Vassar-steen secure win for Farmington

Recap: Farmington Scorpions vs. Sandia Matadors

On Friday, the Farmington Scorpions faced the Sandia Matadors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Farmington came out on top against Sandia by a score of 66-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Farmington was led to victory by Zander Griego and Cody Vassar-steen. Griego dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Vassar-steen scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Griego has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Michael Beck, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Sandia still got an impressive performance from Thomas Adams, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Adams hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Zaire Ndyabagye was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Farmington and bumps their season record up to 18-4. As for Sandia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-9.

Farmington will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against West Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Hopefully Farmington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. As for Sandia, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Eldorado at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Sandia has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,353 points over their last 19 matchups.
