The Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 13th straight loss. They fell to Inlet Grove 64-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the defeat, Somerset Academy - Canyons saw an underclassman step up: Victor Diaz scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Clendenin, who scored 12 points.
Somerset Academy - Canyons struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Inlet Grove pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Inlet Grove found their leader in underclassman Robert Brown, who scored 32 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. Tayler Hodge White was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Somerset Academy - Canyons dropped their record down to 7-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Inlet Grove, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy - Canyons will take on Tradition Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Inlet Grove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Suncoast at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Suncoast presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Inlet Grove in Florida (Suncoast is ranked 150th, while Inlet Grove is ranked 359th).
