Basketball Recap: Pueblo County Takes a Loss

Pueblo County lost against Pueblo Central back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pueblo County Hornets lost to the Pueblo Central Wildcats on the road by a 69-50 margin. The Hornets were down 52-31 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Pueblo County lost, don't look at Lowry Kirkland. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Another player making a difference was Harley Harding, who had eight points.

Even though they lost, Pueblo County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Pueblo Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tayvon Evans led the charge by putting up 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrin Hemphill, who scored 15 points.

Pueblo County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Pueblo Central, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Pueblo County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-45 defeat against Pueblo South on the 31st. Pueblo Central has also already played their next matchup, a 60-56 win against Pueblo East on the 31st.
