Basketball Recap: Hayfield Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Hayfield waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mount Vernon Majors 72-32. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Majors are ranked 290th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hayfield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Judy, who to rack up 20 points. Thanks to that strong game, Judy now owns an excellent 45.1% field goal percentage. Aaron Mcfarlane was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six assists and five steals.

Hayfield pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points over those games. As for Mount Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-18.

Hayfield has already played their next contest, a 56-53 win against Edison on the 21st. As for Mount Vernon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-57 defeat against Robinson on the 24th.
