Baseball Preview: Hobbs Eagles vs. Carlsbad Cavemen        
        
		
            
 The Hobbs Eagles will head out on the road to  face off against  the Carlsbad Cavemen at 5:00  p.m.  on Thursday. Hobbs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5  runs per game  this season.
 Hobbs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another  one of New Mexico's top teams: Clovis, who was ranked 16th in their home state at the time (Hobbs was ranked 12th). Hobbs fell just short of Clovis by a score of  8-6 on Thursday. Hobbs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
 Hobbs got a good showing from  Nicholas Gonzalez, who   tossed four innings while giving up just one earned  (and one unearned) run off   four  hits. Gonzalez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't  given up  more than one  walk in seven consecutive pitching appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Cole Kesner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  went 2-for-4 with three  RBI and a  double. Another player making a difference was  Xavier Alvarado, who  scored a  run while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.
 Meanwhile, Carlsbad put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season  on Saturday. Everything went their way against Roswell as Carlsbad made off with  an  8-2 win. Winning may never get old, but Carlsbad sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
 Hobbs' loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Carlsbad, their victory was  their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which  pushed their record up to 16-7.
 Hobbs couldn't quite finish off Carlsbad when the teams last played  back in April of 2023 and fell  6-4. Can Hobbs avenge their  defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
