Basketball Recap: West Potomac Falls Short Against Ranked South County

On Saturday, West Potomac faced South County in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The West Potomac Wolverines fell to the South County Stallions 51-47. The Wolverines were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Stallions earlier this season, when they won 55-44.

West Potomac's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Jones, who posted 15 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dawn Houston, who scored 16 points and seven rebounds.

West Potomac's defeat dropped their record down to 18-2. As for South County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Potomac will host Woodson at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (West Potomac has won nine straight at home, while Woodson won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for South County, they will challenge Alexandria City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alexandria City has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while South County will come in with four straight wins.
