Basketball Game Preview: Mendota Trojans vs. Oregon Hawks

Having just played yesterday, the Mendota Trojans will get right back to it and host the Oregon Hawks at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mendota was handed a 24-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged Erie-Prophetstown out 53-51. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while the Panthers are ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Oregon earned a 48-41 win over Stillman Valley on Tuesday.

Mendota is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Oregon, their victory bumped their record up to 16-13.

Mendota was able to grind out a solid win over Oregon when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 82-72. Will Mendota repeat their success, or does Oregon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
