Baseball Recap: Lee County Gets the Win

Lee County's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Athens Drive Jaguars with a sharp 8-2 victory. The Yellow Jackets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 28, 2025 (when they won 6-0).

Alex Borrell and Gerry Siegfried made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Borrell tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Siegfried pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Borrell went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Siegfried went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Borrell has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Lee County let Alston Beal and Channing Thomas run wild. Beal went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Thomas went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI Thomas has posted since back in April of 2025.

Lee County's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-14. As for Athens Drive, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Lee County and Athens Drive could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Yellow Jackets will take on Southern Lee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (442 vs. 57). Meanwhile, Athens Drive (ranked 309th) will meet Millbrook (ranked 118th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
