The Connellsville Falcons will challenge the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Connellsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
Connellsville proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 21) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Trinity 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Falcons sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Kendal King spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits.
At the plate, Connellsville let Kaylee Roadman and Cali Leichliter run wild. Roadman went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Leichliter went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Leichliter has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson got the win against Peters Township on Friday by a conclusive 7-1. Considering the Jaguars have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey Shaffer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
In other batting news, Madden Stanek was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Sophie Janosko was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Connellsville's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Thomas Jefferson, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Connellsville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like Thomas Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
