Softball Recap: Workman Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Workman can now relate to. They fell just short of the Garey Vikings by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The Lobos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2020.

McKenna Weller put in work no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Leana Sanchez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

Workman's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Garey, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season.

Workman does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Garey, they will face off against El Monte at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
