Baseball Recap: Heyworth's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Heyworth had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Oakwood Comets. This was payback for the Hornets, who suffered a 3-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Noah Eldredge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Heyworth's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Mills, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Mills a new career-high.

Heyworth's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-14. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Oakwood, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heyworth will welcome Peoria Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Oakwood, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman at 4:30 p.m.
