Baseball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Akron

Akron hadn't done well against Burlington recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Akron was the clear victor by a 13-4 margin over Burlington. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by nine runs or more this season.

Caleb Poss was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Merek Charney, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5.

Akron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burlington only posted an OBP of .400.

The win (which was Akron's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Burlington, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Akron will challenge Peetz at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Akron's favor as the team sits on 11 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Peetz has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Burlington, they will host Goodland at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
