Preview: Timnath Cubs vs. Platte Valley Broncos
The Timnath Cubs's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Platte Valley Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Timnath is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Platte Valley in Colorado (Timnath is ranked 110th, while Platte Valley is ranked 225th).
In what's become a running theme this season, Timnath gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They put the hurt on Valley with a sharp 60-38 victory. The victory was just what Timnath needed coming off of a 78-51 loss in their prior game.
Timnath found their leader in underclassman Tiana Guzman, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Guzman is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lily Eisbrener, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 42-26 to Dayspring Christian Academy.
Despite their defeat, Platte Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lauryn Uyemura, who scored seven points along with seven steals, was perhaps the best of all.
Even though they lost, Platte Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Timnath has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Platte Valley, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-9.
Timnath was taken down by Platte Valley 56-24 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Timnath was down 35-6.
