Football Recap: Florence Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

There's no place like home for Florence, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 21-18 win over the Cleveland Central Wolves on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since October 4, 2024.

Florence's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayne Ashley, who rushed for 40 yards and one score, and also threw for 76 yards and one TD. 80 of those passing yards were hauled in by Morgan Weathersby, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Despite the defeat, Cleveland Central had strong showings from Kyle Mitchell, who rushed for 92 yards, and Christopher Watkins, who threw for 182 yards and one touchdown on only 15 passes. Mitchell's longest rush was for an impressive 68 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Florence pushed their record up to 3-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.3 points on average over those games. As for Cleveland Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Meanwhile, Cleveland Central will face off against rival Vicksburg at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Anthony Stephens Jr and Jadarius Henderson.
