Baseball Game Preview: Jacksonville Cardinals vs. New Bern Bears

Jacksonville is 1-9 against New Bern since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cardinals will host the Bears at 7:00 p.m. New Bern took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Jacksonville, who comes in off a win.

While Jacksonville's victory against Southwest Onslow wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals won by a run and slipped past the Stallions 3-2. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by just one run.

Ryan Yates made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vasco Sutton, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, New Bern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against D.H. Conley, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bears have suffered since March 7th.

Jacksonville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for New Bern, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
