Softball Recap: Lawrence Central Bears vs. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves

Lawrence Central had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it four. They fell 11-8 to the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves. The Bears were not able to make up for their loss to the Braves from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Sophia Ruschhaupt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Heavener, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, the victory got them back to even at 6-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's side, Sophie Braun was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave Braun a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Danica Geyer was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Elle Feltman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lawrence Central will take on Perry Meridian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.67 runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, they will head out on the road to face off against Living Water Homeschool at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
