Softball Preview: Punahou Buff n' Blue vs. Kamehameha Kapalama Warriors

Punahou is 2-8 against Kamehameha Kapalama since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Punahou Buff n' Blue will head out on the road to challenge the Kamehameha Kapalama Warriors at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

Last Thursday, Punahou faced Mid-Pacific Institute in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Punahou put the hurt on Mid-Pacific Institute with a sharp 15-3 win. The victory was just what Punahou needed coming off of a 16-1 loss in their prior match.

Meanwhile, while Kamehameha Kapalama put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Mid-Pacific Institute. Kamehameha Kapalama was the clear victor by a 13-0 margin over Mid-Pacific Institute. Considering Kamehameha Kapalama has won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kamehameha Kapalama got a great performance from Peahi Grillo-Amitage as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Day-lee "Mua" Williams, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mariah Antoque, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Punahou's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Kamehameha Kapalama, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
