Softball Recap: North Haven Victorious

While North Haven's victory against Shelton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Nighthawks won by a run and slipped past the Gaels 7-6. The Nighthawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Gaels on Tuesday, too.

Gianna Pires spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, North Haven got a big performance out of Alexandra Anquillare, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Anquillare has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Ferriouolo, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: North Haven kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for North Haven and bumps their season record up to 6-13. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Shelton, they moved to 15-5 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Coming up, North Haven will host Sacred Heart Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shelton, they will head out to challenge Mercy at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gaels 2.4, the Tigers 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
