The Woodside Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Hillsdale FIGHTING KNIGHTS at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, everything went Woodside's way against Summit Shasta as Woodside made off with a 13-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Cruz Torres made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Torres was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Carter Ball looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Trent Amoroso was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Diego Perez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Woodside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit Shasta only posted a batting average of .310.
Meanwhile, Hillsdale earned a 7-4 win over San Mateo last Monday. The victory continues a trend for the FIGHTING KNIGHTS in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won eight in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jake Belloni, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Bonner, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
The win got Woodside back to even at 3-3. As for Hillsdale, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodside has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hillsdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Woodside skirted past Hillsdale 4-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Woodside since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
