Russell and Greenup County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will head out to square off against the Musketeers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Saturday, Russell came up short against Whitley County and fell 5-1.

Russell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jared Whitt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Whitt's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Greenup County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Jackson on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Ironman/Ironladies by a score of 5-3. The Musketeers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Sawyer Hatfield led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Boggs, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.

Russell has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Greenup County, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.

Russell couldn't quite finish off Greenup County when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
