Baseball Recap: Timothy Christian Takes a Loss

Timothy Christian had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it 11. They lost 21-4 to the Somerset Tech Jaguars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Somerset Tech this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Thursday.

As for Somerset Tech, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Somerset Tech's part, Robert Caterinicchia made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Caterinicchia was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Somerset Tech let Nicholas Raspovich and George Ghanime run wild. Raspovich got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Ghanime went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Raspovich is becoming a predictor of Somerset Tech's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nathanael White, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Looking ahead, Timothy Christian will take on Dunellen at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Destroyers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Timothy Christian surely won't give up without a fight. As for Somerset Tech, they will challenge East Brunswick Vo-Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Brunswick Vo-Tech's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Somerset Tech's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
