Softball Recap: Sandwich Sets Scoring Season-High Against Woodstock

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sandwich). They blew past the Woodstock Blue Streaks 14-1 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Blue Streaks: they've now won four in a row.

Brooklyn Marks made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kayden Corneils and Abigail Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Corneils went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Johnson went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Johnson has posted since back in March. Hannah Decker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Sandwich kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Sandwich now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Woodstock, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-17.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandwich will head out to face off against Earlville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Red Raiders will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Woodstock, they will venture away from home to take on Crystal Lake South at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
