Monett is 1-8 against Aurora since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Cubs will square off against the Houn Dawgs at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Monett's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on New Covenant Academy with a sharp 10-0 win. The Cubs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 10-0).
Aidan Clapper was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Monett is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-10 otherwise. Clapper was also big at the plate, earning two runs and four stolen bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, Carson Burtrum looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Miles Young was excellent, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brayden Seitz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Monett hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Covenant Academy struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Aurora earned a 7-4 victory over Licking on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Houn Dawgs.
Max Holland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Holland was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Memphis Mooneyham, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Casen Brown was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Aurora's record is now 15-13. As for Monett, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Monett might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Aurora when the teams last played back in April. Can the Cubs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
