Softball Game Preview: New Brockton Gamecocks vs. Pike County Bulldogs

The New Brockton Gamecocks will face off against the Pike County Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Brockton has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 3rd.

On Monday, New Brockton came up short against Elba and fell 4-1.

Pike County not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 12-0). They blew past Russell County 10-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Leah Dixon made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Abigail Griffin and Paloma Cain did most of the damage at the plate: Griffin got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI, while Cain went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Cain has posted since back in February. Makayla Franklin was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Pike County's victory bumped their record up to 6-18. As for New Brockton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-21.
