Softball Recap: Carmichaels Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

Carmichaels is still undefeated this season after their game against Jefferson-Morgan on Wednesday, but Jefferson-Morgan came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Mighty Mikes came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Rockets. The Mighty Mikes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rockets, too.

Bailey Barnyak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Carys McConnell was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Ke'Lani Chun also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Carmichaels' win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average this season. As for Jefferson-Morgan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Carmichaels and Jefferson-Morgan should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Mighty Mikes will face off against Mapletown at 4:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (42 vs. 449). Meanwhile, Jefferson-Morgan (ranked 173rd) will meet Avella (ranked 467th) at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
