Preview: South Summit Wildcats vs. Grantsville Cowboys

South Summit is 2-8 against Grantsville since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The South Summit Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grantsville Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Summit has 15 straight wins, Grantsville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Even though American Heritage scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, South Summit still came out on top. South Summit walked away with a 66-58 victory over American Heritage. Given South Summit's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while American Heritage is ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Logan Woolstenhulme, who scored 20 points. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Gage Mckee was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Grantsville, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-48 loss to Morgan on Friday.

Grantsville's loss came about despite a quality game from Ethan Powell, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.

South Summit pushed their record up to 15-0 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Grantsville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Wednesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: South Summit have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Grantsville, though, as they've been averaging only 28.1 rebounds per game. Given South Summit's sizeable advantage in that area, Grantsville will need to find a way to close that gap.

South Summit didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Grantsville when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 58-54 win. Does South Summit have another victory up their sleeve, or will Grantsville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
