Baseball Game Preview: Vashon Island Pirates vs. South Whidbey Falcons

The Vashon Island Pirates will face off against the South Whidbey Falcons at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Neither Vashon Island nor South Whidbey posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Vashon Island is leaving town to face South Whidbey after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Vashon Island took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cascade Christian last Friday.

Charlie Walker was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Walker was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Walker wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jude Dardeau, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Jonas Maxfield was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, South Whidbey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 2-0 to Overlake, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
