Basketball Recap: Urbana Beats East St. Louis for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Urbana had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-52 win over the East St. Louis Flyers. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 71-30 victory the Flyers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Several Flyers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ishaia Brown, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brown has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times he's played. Alex Johnson was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Urbana's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for East St. Louis, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Urbana will head out to face off against MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East St. Louis, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Gateway Christian at 7:00 p.m. East St. Louis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.
