Baseball Recap: Northlake Christian Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

Northlake Christian got themselves on the board against Hammond on Saturday, but Hammond never followed suit. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over the Hammond Tornadoes. While the Wolverines didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The result came thanks to Eli Shoemake's shutout, as he gave up just four hits.

At the plate, Northlake Christian's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Stew Covey, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Northlake Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Hammond, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Northlake Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against Hammond: the pair will be back at it again later today.
