Preview: Laurel Spartans vs. Wise Pumas
Laurel is 0-9 against Wise since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Laurel Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Wise Pumas at 7:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Laurel had to suffer through a rough 72-27 loss at the hands of Flowers. While losing is never fun, Laurel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Flowers is ranked 31st).
Meanwhile, Wise's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 55-52 to Eleanor Roosevelt, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Wise has not had much luck with Eleanor Roosevelt recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
This is the second loss in a row for Laurel and nudges their season record down to 5-11. As for Wise, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Laurel was taken down by Wise 51-18 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Laurel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
