Softball Recap: Oak Grove's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Oak Grove took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against North Stanly, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Oak Grove Grizzlies won by a run and slipped past the North Stanly Comets 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Grizzlies: when they faced off against the Comets last Tuesday, they had to take a 7-1 defeat.

Mary Peyton Hodge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oak Grove's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isabelle Lawrence, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

With the win, Oak Grove broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4. As for North Stanly, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Grove will take on South Caldwell at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. South Caldwell will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for North Stanly, they will challenge West Davidson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Stanly's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so West Davidson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
