Soccer Game Preview: Troy vs. Athens

The Troy Colts will face off against the Athens Red Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Athens took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Troy, who comes in off a win.

While Troy's win against Oxford wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Colts won by a goal and slipped past the Wildcats 2-1. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Troy's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan soccer rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Oxford are ranked 98th).

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Athens' offense. They fell just short of Traverse City West by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. The shutout was out of character for Athens seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

Troy pushed their record up to 7-2-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Athens, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-2-2.

Troy took their win against Athens when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 4-1 score. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Red Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
