Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mount Vernon). The stars were shining brightly for them in a 72-56 victory over the Chisum Mustangs on Friday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 396th, while the Mustangs are ranked 1025th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win made it two in a row for Mount Vernon and bumps their season record up to 10-6. As for Chisum, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Mount Vernon will finish 2024 at home by hosting Cooper at 12:00 p.m. on December 30th. As for Chisum, they will take on Community in a tournament on Thursday. Community's defense has only allowed 29.8 points per game this season, so Chisum's offense will have their work cut out for them.
