Baseball Game Preview: Fairfax Stampede vs. Central Bobcats

For the second straight game, Fairfax will face off against Central. The Stampede will host the Bobcats at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fairfax has five straight victories, Central has 18 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Fairfax beats Central with 14 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Stampede were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Bobcats on Tuesday. Considering the Stampede have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Daniel Alaniz spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 11 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Fairfax's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Vincent Quadrozzi, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Balderas, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Fairfax was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are 8-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Fairfax pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.
