Football Game Preview: Burges Mustangs vs. Del Valle Conquistadores

Burges is 0-4 against Del Valle since October of 2020 but things could change on Thursday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Conquistadores at 7:00 p.m. Burges has given up an average of 30.6 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Burges came into their game last Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They took a blow against Andress, falling 62-7. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 883rd, while the Eagles are ranked 388th).

Meanwhile, Del Valle waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 56-49 victory over the Eagles. The win almost wasn't to be: the Conquistadores were down 42-28 in the third quarter.

Burges better keep an eye on Jake Fette. He was instrumental in Del Valle's win, rushing for 236 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 200 yards and three TDs. What's more, Fette racked up 141.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Del Valle was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 310 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Burges' defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Del Valle, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Burges was taken down by Del Valle 70-17 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Mustangs were down 56-3.
