Softball Game Preview: Folsom Bulldogs vs. Laguna Creek Cardinals

The Folsom Bulldogs will square off against the Laguna Creek Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Folsom gave up the first runs last Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Davis Sr. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won three in a row.

Sophie Green was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Xavia Hodgins, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Folsom hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are undefeated (5-0) when they post two or more strikeouts.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Laguna Creek and Cosumnes Oaks, and Laguna Creek kept the tradition alive. The Cardinals won by a run and slipped past the Wolfpack 8-7. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by just one run.

Nikiya Jumpingbull spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mia Gonzalez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Aundrea Jackson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Folsom's win bumped their record up to 9-6-2. As for Laguna Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Folsom came out on top in a nail-biter against Laguna Creek when the teams last played back in March of 2017, sneaking past 7-6. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
