Baseball Recap: Manatee Comes Up Short

Manatee lost against Cardinal Mooney back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Manatee took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cardinal Mooney. The Hurricanes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Manatee got a good showing from Steven Williams, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Williams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Payton Harlan was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Manatee's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Cardinal Mooney, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Manatee and Cardinal Mooney should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Manatee will square off against Winter Haven at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday up 202 places (103 vs. 305). Meanwhile, Cardinal Mooney (ranked 98th) will meet Clearwater Central Catholic (ranked 395th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
