Recap: St. Mary's Gaels vs. St. Anthony's Friars

If the St. Mary's Gaels were feeling good off their 95-54 takedown of Academy Charter back in December of 2023, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. St. Mary's took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Anthony on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Mary's has scored all season.

St. Anthony's found their leader in underclassman Kevin Moore, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moore has scored all season. Connor Mannix was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.

St. Mary's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for St. Anthony's, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kellenberg Memorial at 2:00 p.m. on February 11th. St. Mary's has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 675 points over their last nine games. As for St. Anthony's, they will head out on the road to take on Holy Trinity at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Holy Trinity knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully St. Anthony's likes a good challenge.
