Woodgrove has gone a perfect 8-0 against Freedom recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wolverines are taking a road trip to face off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Woodgrove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 14.7 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Woodgrove after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Lightridge by a score of 4-3. The match marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Abby Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Addie McCullers was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Barker, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Freedom entered their tilt with Gainesville on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 16-14.
Avery Greenfield was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Elena Schohn also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Freedom kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Freedom's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Woodgrove, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
Freedom's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woodgrove has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Freedom, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Woodgrove's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Woodgrove took their victory against Freedom in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
