For the second straight game, Peotone will face off against Wilmington. The Blue Devils will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
Monday just wasn't the day for Peotone's offense. They came up short against Wilmington on Monday, falling 10-0. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
For Wilmington's part, Lucas Rink was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Rink has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Ryan Kettman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zach Ohlund, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Wilmington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peotone only posted an OBP of .118.
The win (which was Wilmington's fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Peotone, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Peotone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wilmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
