Softball Recap: North Brookfield Comes Up Short

North Brookfield had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it four. They fell 13-9 to the North Middlesex Regional Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 back in April.

As for North Middlesex Regional, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For North Middlesex Regional's part, Giada Manolakis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Erica Ercolini was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Calliann Chapman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, North Brookfield will host Murdock at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20.5 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for North Middlesex Regional, they will head out to take on Narragansett Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
