Volleyball Game Preview: South Mecklenburg Sabres vs. Butler Bulldogs

South Mecklenburg is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Butler a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The South Mecklenburg Sabres will be playing in front of their home fans against the Butler Bulldogs at 6:15 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

South Mecklenburg needed a changed in momentum after dropping seven straight games and they got it from Phoenix Modie. The Sabres were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over West Mecklenburg on Tuesday with plenty of help from Modie, who had 20 kills, six aces, four blocks, and three digs. He has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 15 times he's played.

The final score came out to 25-9, 25-21, 25-8.

Butler not only won two weeks ago, but they posted their biggest win since March 13th (when they won 3-0). They blew past Berry 3-0. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their nine-game losing streak.

While Butler won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-0, 25-0.

South Mecklenburg's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Butler, their victory bumped their record up to 2-10.

South Mecklenburg might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Butler in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Sabres avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
