Softball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Beats St. Thomas Aquinas for Their Tenth Straight Win

Cardinal Gibbons had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. The Chiefs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Raiders, too.

Lydia Berent was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Morgan Beavers was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February.

Cardinal Gibbons' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Looking ahead, Cardinal Gibbons will head out on the road to face off against Western at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they will be taking part in a tournament against Hagerty at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
