The LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls will challenge the Immokalee Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
LaBelle took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Lake Placid, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. LaBelle beat Lake Placid on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys/Cowgirls.
Abby Hicks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
On the hitting side, Emorie Anderson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Carli Spencer, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Immokalee). Everything went their way against Dunbar on Thursday as Immokalee made off with a 22-2 victory.
Kaylee Perez was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Silguero, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Immokalee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .794. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Immokalee's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for LaBelle, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. LaBelle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Immokalee struggles in that department as they've averaged .407. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
LaBelle took their win against Immokalee when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-3. Will LaBelle repeat their success, or does Immokalee has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
