The Memorial Roughriders will face off against the Shawnee Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Memorial barely beat Van Wert the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Roughriders blew past the Cougars 7-1 on Tuesday. The Roughriders haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Shawnee waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Cardinals.
Riley Rhodes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Lyla Rosas was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Lichty, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Shawnee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Shawnee pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Memorial beat Shawnee 4-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Roughriders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
