Baseball Recap: Leyden's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

Leyden can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Hinsdale South Hornets by a score of 8-5. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Hornets on Monday, they had to take a 1-0 defeat.

Christopher Matz looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddox Jasinski was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Leyden's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 8-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jacob Ganir, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Leyden was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Leyden's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Hinsdale South, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-14-1.

Leyden will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hornets: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
