Baseball Recap: Phillips Academy Takes a Loss

Phillips Academy extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-7 in the process. They fell 7-3 to the Poly Prep Country Day Blue Devils. The Big Blue were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2017.

Phillips Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew DeBenedictis, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Poly Prep Country Day, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On Poly Prep Country Day's side, Justice De Jong tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. De Jong also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Blue Devils are 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Jack Roventini was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Mateo Noto was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Phillips Academy will head out to square off against Brooks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Poly Prep Country Day, they will challenge Malvern Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
