Basketball Game Preview: Marvin Ridge Mavericks vs. Sun Valley Spartans

Marvin Ridge and Sun Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Marvin Ridge Mavericks will be playing at home against the Sun Valley Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Marvin Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.

On Friday, Marvin Ridge didn't have too much trouble with Cuthbertson as they won 56-41. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.

Brady Dunn went supernova for Marvin Ridge, going 11 for 18 en route to 28 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Smith, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley lost a heartbreaker to Monroe when they met back in January of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. The matchup between Sun Valley and Monroe didn't end well, with Sun Valley falling 58-43. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while the Redhawks are ranked 162nd).

Marvin Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Sun Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Marvin Ridge beat Sun Valley 66-56 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Will Marvin Ridge repeat their success, or does Sun Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
