Baseball Recap: Indianapolis Shortridge Blue Devils vs. Monrovia Bulldogs

Indianapolis Shortridge had lost six straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it seven. They came up short against the Monrovia Bulldogs, falling 26-2. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Indianapolis Shortridge saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Edmondson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Monrovia, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.

On Monrovia's side, Cameron Fathman was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Fathman was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Monrovia got a massive performance out of Zach Oliphant, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Oliphant is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Grant Kluemper also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Indianapolis Shortridge wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-13 victory against Purdue Broad Ripple on the 26th. As for Monrovia, they will venture away from home to challenge Owen Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
